Girdwood, another small village, this one with seven glaciers and a tram ride to the top of the mountain, what a view.
The Alyeska Resort, in Girdwood, is Alaska’s largest ski area.
Girdwood is an unincorporated year-round ski resort community near Anchorage. It lies in a valley in the Chugach Mountains near the end of the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, 36 miles southeast of Anchorage.
It is surrounded by seven permanent glaciers. Summer activities include hiking, fishing and rafting, but Girdwood is best known for winter skiing and snowboarding at Alyeska Resort on Mount Alyeska. Girdwood also hosts the Girdwood Forest Festival every summer. Girdwood has the northernmost rain forest in the world.
We happen to be in town for the Forest Festival, 1000s of people attend every year.
Costumes were the order of the day, if we had only known we would have dressed up.
A hair stylist was on the premises and a great face painter.
Two bands were playing in different area of the fair and people were dancing and having a great time.
Okay a real party animal.
Girdwood where the water tastes like wine. I may never leave this town. One stop shopping at the Laundromall. Not sure what the third sign means, if anyone does please let me know.
Donna had her first bear sighting, he wanted to join in the fun at the festival. Not really join in he wanted to watch it from afar.
For all you Amazing Race fans, Girdwood was shown on CBS on January 20, 2008, as the Finish Line for The Amazing Race 12.
When we returned to the MH Donna and Lucy did a little exercise involving a balloon.

That other sign is showing you the direction to take to get to the public showers in town. We LOVE Girdwood!! We weren't lucky enough to go during the festival though. Looks like it was a lot of fun!!!!
