Nevis MN

We are on our way home, but had to stop and see friends Charlie and Nancy. They have lake property on 6Th Crow Wing Lake.
What a beautiful spot. They have 2 lots one on the lake and one across the road. We camped on the other side of the road.




You really could not ask for a nicer camping spot.












This photo is on the lake side. You can see their motor home set back near the lake. It is just a small lake but in a chain of 8 lakes.








We took a ride around the area and found some really nice colors. Hope to spend more time next summer at their property. We will be seeing them in January in AZ.

The Headwaters Of The Mississippi

We hiked to the headwaters of the Mississippi. Boy I thought it would be a big deal. It is only like 18 feet wide at the starting point and you can walk across it, if you don't mind cold water like 40 degrees. People were walking it in bare feet, to cold for me.





Mike kept is shoes on and his feet dry. Maybe this was healing waters and I should have put my feet in it.


The picture of the tree at the bottom is one of Minnesota's largest white pines. the measurements of this giant are Circumference 173 inches, total hieght 112 feet, and crown spread is 48.75 feet. Quit the impresive tree.

So many things to see here, but we leave in the morning for Nevis Mn. to visit friends.

Itasca State Park (part 2)

The sun was shinning and it was a perfect day for site seeing, and so off we went. I wish you could so all the pictures I took so many and they all are gorgeous.

Mike took this picture of me at Peace Pipe Vista. You get a wide angle view of Lake Itasca at this overlook. It is a favorite place to watch sunsets and take pictures.















we We ran into this couple on the road, well not really ran into them, more like met them. They are from Frazee MN. The car is a 1908 High Wheel Blacksmith. The car is made from parts purchased and assembled by a blacksmith.

It was a great day for a ride. They did say it was a little chilly. Not much of heated in this baby.

Itasca State Park

We Spent the day exploring the park. What a great time of year, very few people and the colors are vibrant. Maybe a little past peek but still stunning.







We ran into a little critter on the trail. We helped him to the other side so no one would step on him.









This is the Aiton Heights Fire Tower. It is 100 feet tall and you have to hike 1/2 mile to get to it. Not good for the feet which are still recovering from the beet harvest.


The last picture is taken from the top of the tower. What a view. Well worth the climb to the top.

Fall In A Small Town

Warren is a beautiful small town, and very friendly. It has a population of 1600 people. Houses have been decorated for Halloween. These pictures are next to the local library. Wish the sun had been shinning, but it has been raining for 2 days now.

Main Street Warren. This is where we have done our shopping, laundry and eating out for the last 2 weeks.

We left Warren today about 12:30 and headed to Itasca State Park.

Where We Worked

We went out today and took some pictures of the beets and machinery at the are where we worked. This is the same area that I posted pictures of last week, only no sugarbeets. Mike ran the conveyor belt the dumped the beets on the pile. No one was working today because of the rain. The fields are to muddy for the trucks.


Trucks pull up to both sides of the piler and dumps there beets. Some of the drives are not very good at it and they spill beets everywhere, thats where the shovel comes in. You have to get them into the hopper. Believe me they spill tons of beets.










Mike makes very nice piles of beets.

Going Home

The beet harvest is still going on, but we dragged up (quit) . It has been raining for 2 days and it will take the fields another couple days to dry out, which means at least another week of harvest. That was to much for us. I want to go home and see my family.

It was an experience I never want to repeat, my feet will never be the same standing for 12 to 13 hours a day on concrete. You get dirt in every orifice, in the ears up the nose and in your eyes. I hate being that dirty, and it's not just dirt it is black mud.

We will be leaving Warren Monday morning if the rain lets up. Mike has never been to Itasca State Park so we plan on 2 days in the park checking it out. Hope the leaves are still on the trees. I would like to get some pictures and maybe I can get them on my blog.
