The drive between Prince George and Chetwynd took us through the Rocky Mountains and some more amazing scenery.
We saw 2 bears today a black bear pictured above and a grizzly which I didn't get a picture of, but my friend Sandy A. did. If you go to her blog she has a picture of it. www.allgire-travels.blogspot.com
Talk about a windy road this is about as windy as they get.
We stopped for an hour or so in Chetwynd the chainsaw capital.
There are 112 chain saw carvings throughout the town. A few more or less depending on who you talk to or what you read.
In 2005 Chetwynd hosted the first annual International Chainsaw Carving Championship, having seven carvers from BC and the US. Now they have carvers from as far as Japan and Whales.
The Fighting Cocks was this years winner, and the Crab took 1st place in 2011.
The contest is held the 2nd weekend in June, we were a couple of days late.
The carvers get a piece of western red cedar 8 feet high and 3 to 4 feet in diameter. They have 36 hours to carve and get the first coat of varnish on there work. Wish we had been in town for the carving.
